2014 Vancouver Conference + Agenda

The Japanese Canadian Young Leaders’ Conference is a three day conference that will educate, inspire, and connect you with powerful ideas that can help motivate you and your community. This conference is organized in collaboration with the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) and will run concurrently with the NAJC Annual General Meeting. Great speakers, interactive discussions, networking, and facilitated workshops will ensure you make new connections and energize your inner leader!

Location: Vancouver Public Library, 350 West Georgia, Vancouver, BC (Alma VanDusen and Alice Mackay Rooms)
Hotel (Friday night event): Carmana Plaza Hotel, 1128 Alberni Street, Vancouver BC

10:00 – 11:30 am Steveston Walking Tour
hosted by Kelvin Higo and Don Mukai of the Steveston Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre
(One group will start at the Steveston Martial Arts Centre, the other group will start at the Fisherman’s Memorial)
11:30 am – 12:15 pm Carpool from Steveston to Burnaby
12:15 – 1:30 pm Bentos from Fujya / Hi Genki for Lunch at the Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre (6688 Southoaks Crescent, Burnaby)
1:30 – 5:00 pm

Nikkei Home + Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre Visit and Tour.


  • Tea with Nikkei Home Residents (limit of 20 participants)
  • Presentation by the Musuem Staff, Tour of the Museum Exhibits and Nikkei Centre
  • Tour of behind scenes at the Museum (in smaller groups)
  • Taiko Workshop by Tetsu Taiko (weather dependent!)
  • Free time
